Hop ’n drop: 4 new hopscotch courses added to OurBrunssum!
Last year we introduced several brand-new hopscotch paths in the north, east, south, west, and the centre of OurBrunssum. These hopscotch paths have been a great success. A lot of hopping and skipping is happening in Brunssum, both by adults and children. So much hopping has taken place that new hopscotch paths have been laid in various locations in Brunssum. The hopscotch paths are an initiative by OurBrunssum in collaboration with Monique Aerts from Monos and Pluk Peuteropvang. The concept of the hopscotch path is based on the philosophy of playing and learning together. At Pluk Peuteropvang, the playful discovery of language, healthy eating, doing sums, social skills, and physical activity takes centre stage. All these elements are incorporated into the "Pluk Hopscotch Path," making it a perfect way to engage young kids in a fun and accessible manner.
A special version of a fun and educational design
Based on the existing Pluk Hopscotch Path, a new variant was created: the OurBrunssum Hopscotch Path. The design incorporates various elements, such as icons for healthy eating and physical activity, as well as the recognizable outline of Brunssum. The colours are also clearly inspired by the OurBrunssum brand identity.
OurHopscotchBrunssum gadget: the bean bag
To make hopscotching even more fun, there's a limited edition of the 'OurHopscotchBrunssum bean bag.' You can use it to toss and hop around the specific square. These bean bags are available for free at various locations for the youngest residents of Brunssum, and they are also handed out at Pluk locations!
Locations where you can obtain a bean bag:
- Buro Brunssum, Kerkstraat 3 (only 5 left in stock)
- Emma Nova, Koolweg 44 (only 1 left in stock)
Extra incentive
The exact goal? To give children a positive experience with their home environment from an early age, but especially to encourage active outdoor play. The choice to use the traditional hopscotch design was intentional, allowing young children to become familiar with healthy eating and exercise. By placing the hopscotch paths in various locations across the city, children are naturally encouraged to move—they spontaneously come across them. The hopscotch path is tangible and serves as an extra incentive for outdoor activities, away from screens. Every child can participate, including those with additional needs or motor challenges, at their own pace and without feeling pressured.
The idea behind the Hopscotch Path is simple yet powerful. In an era where complexity is often celebrated, this initiative proves that something simple can also hold great value. Just hopscotching, playing, and learning together—that's the core philosophy.
